History[]
Journey through White Space Arc[]
On the Space Colony ARK, Shadow finds two researchers being attacked by an experimental animal, he immediately spin dashes, and kicks the animal, mentioning that he yields no grudge towards it. The scientists praise Shadow, referring him as the ultimate lifeform.
Shadow moves through the hallways of the ARK, he approaches a death leech and starts to speak his mind. He calls the title of him being the ultimate lifeform laughable, and mentions that he was made with the DNA of a large space organism. He elaborates further that he was made as a "wonder drug" but ended up being a failure at that.
Maria leaps towards Shadow, covering his eyes. Shadow asks what Maria's doing and Maria questions how Shadow knew it was her, and Shadow responds that she's the only one that would prank him. Maria mentions that Shadow's eyes look grim and Shadow responds that it's his normal appearance.
Maria grabs Shadow's arm and takes him to the observatory deck of the Space Colony ARK to observe the sunrise of Earth. Maria collapses onto the ground because of her sickness and Shadow picks her up, mentioning her sickness picking up. Maria gives Shadow heartfelt words and tells Shadow that there is a meaning to his birth. Shadow shrugs it off and brings Maria back to her room. Shadow starts to ponder and feels like he's been wasting the time in his life, but he feels as though, dealing with Maria isn't that bad.
When Maria gets better, the two head back to the observatory deck and Earth's National Defense Forces arrive and start raiding the ARK. A soldier mentions that they've arrived to dispose of everything, Shadow attacks a group of soldiers, and a scientist starts begging for his life. Shadow tells the scientist that he needs to stay put and that he'll be allowed to escape. The scientist still continues to beg for help, and says that working on Shadow was a waste of time and shouldn't be killed over Shadow.
Shadow runs off, noting that he at least has Maria. He walks in on Maria being aimed at by a group of soldiers saying "I know a lab animal, that's disgusting." Shadow stares in horror, a soldier notes that Maria is lying, Maria responds that she said nothing like that. Shadow walks down, stating that he knew it, he should've never been born. Maria says that the one she loves is Shadow, and despite any torture, she'll endure it and won't give them any information on Shadow.
Shadow starts rushing towards Maria, thinking, it's all her. Shadow steps up in front of Maria, exclaiming that he's found the meaning to his birth. Shadow says to the soldiers to never come near them again. Maria hugs Shadow, Shadow gets ready to take Maria to some place safe. But, all of a sudden, a soldier manipulated by a death leech comes in and shoots Maria.
Shadow stands in shock from the shot and watches Maria collapse. He starts to get strange headaches and realizes the soldiers are manipulated by death leeches. He rushes through the soldier, yelling that he'll kill the rest of them. Maria locks Shadow into a emergency escape pod, after telling him that she loves him and to never be consumed by anger and let the people of Earth have a chance to be happy, she launches Shadow down.
All of a sudden, Shadow gets transported to White Space. Shadow is confused but he ignores it, wanting to go back to the ARK, but remembering Maria's death sends him into a rush of fury, knocking himself into Bug-Eye. Shadow asks Bug-Eye where he is, the two banter around, and Shadow speculates that Bug-Eye is aware of where he is.
After teasing him, Bug-Eye explains White Space to Shadow. Shadow then finds the White Space version of Maria and runs towards her, but he ends up phasing through her. Bug-Eye proposes that he can bring her back to life, to which Shadow thinks that Bug-Eye is joking and ignores him. Bug-Eye starts to explain how Maria can come back. Shadow aggressively asks Bug-Eye how to bring Maria back to life, to which Bug-Eye explains the Three Wishing Orbs. Shadow decides to take Bug-Eye with him since he can't trust him and the two head to the Space Colony ARK to find the first Orb.
Upon arriving on the ARK, Bug-Eye assumes that this was the deathplace of whom Shadow lost, asking if he really wants to continue moving through such a traumatic site upon seeing his restless expression. Shadow remembers Maria's parting words, calms down, and asks Bug-Eye again to not joke around with him. Shadow asks Bug-Eye where the Orb is but they get ambushed by robots. Bug-Eye mentions that the place is unhinged and suggests to retreat, to which Shadow says that he's "talking to the wrong guy".
After the skirmish, Shadow finds a Power Sealing Device keeping the first wishing Orb, after smashing through the center, the Orb flows into Shadow and he gains immense headaches. Bug-Eye asks Shadow how he's feeling to which Shadow states "agreeable, somehow." Shadow then asks Bug-Eye how they can get out of the space, to which Bug-Eye says that you have to defeat "the master of the space." The two eventually find the master of the space, who is revealed to be the Biolizard. Shadow tries attacking it but his attacks appear to yield no effect.
Eventually during the battle, Shadow tells Bug-Eye that the Biolizard is his proto-type, and how on the ARK the experimental animals were created to create "the ultimate lifeform." He recalls in a research study that the experimental animals were effectively unable to be harmed if they yielded a life support system, realizing that the system must be the weakness.
Shadow starts to practice his new power he gained from the first Orb, Doom Spears, the Biolizard builds up a giant purple energy ball and throws it at Shadow, Shadow doesn't dodge it and continues to focus on charging up his spears. He tanks the attack, Bug-Eye realizes that when Shadow said "I will bring Maria back to life. Nothing else matters." that may include Shadow himself too, Shadow throws the spears at the Biolizard's life support system, calling him a poor, tortured soul, he kicks it's life support system, ending the battle.
The two arrive back at White Space, Shadow, worn out by his power, wonders when the "wish factor" of the Orb will come in. Shadow yelps towards Maria for a moment but quickly snaps back, however, Maria actually responds. She reveals that she's blinded and couldn't hear until now, Shadow tries to touch her hands, but she can't feel still and phases through her. Maria says that she wants to watch the stars with Shadow again, confusing him, he then remembers the raid on the ARK and wonders if Maria is aware of her death.
